Discover some of the uses for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves sitting in a comfortable pressurised chamber while breathing high-concentration oxygen through a mask. During treatment, the pressure inside the chamber is increased to around twice normal atmospheric pressure.

Under normal conditions, the body mostly relies on red blood cells to carry oxygen in the bloodstream. HBOT allows more oxygen to dissolve directly into the liquid part of the blood, known as plasma. This allows oxygen to reach tissues with low oxygen levels, including in areas that are injured, infected, or healing. HBOT helps support the body’s healing processes.

HBOT works cumulatively, with best results seen following regular attendance. This means that treatment is usually delivered as a planned course of sessions, rather than within a single visit.

If you would like to explore whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be appropriate for you, contact our team for further information.

We can explain how the service works, how screening is carried out, and what a typical course of treatment involves.

Conditions

The areas below are those in which HBOT has been studied or is sometimes used in non-emergency settings. Each section provides general information about the condition and how HBOT may be used as a supportive approach.

HBOT may support the healing of diabetic foot ulcers by improving oxygen delivery to support faster wound healing.

How We Work With Your Medical Team

At OxyGeneration, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is provided in a calm, clinical setting, with a strong focus on safety and client comfort. Our role is to provide carefully delivered HBOT as a supportive therapy that may form part of a wider health or recovery plan.

Some clients attend following a referral from a doctor or specialist, while others contact us directly after learning more about HBOT.

All clients complete a pre-treatment screening questionnaire. This allows us to assess suitability and identify factors that may require medical review. In some cases, we may ask you to contact your doctor to confirm that HBOT is suitable for you before treatment begins.

For more information about suitability, contraindications, and the screening process, please visit our Suitability page

OxyGeneration operates as a non-emergency service, providing planned courses of HBOT rather than emergency medical care. We work alongside your existing healthcare providers, but do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe treatment, or replace the role of your GP, consultant, or specialist.  Responsibility for ongoing medical care remains with your treating clinician.

Some people explore hyperbaric oxygen therapy for general well-being, recovery support, or sporting performance. These uses sit outside the defined medical indications, and evidence in these areas is not as extensive and it is still evolving.

Individuals interested in HBOT for these reasons may include athletes managing training load, people looking to support recovery after physical exertion, or those interested in approaches that may support general well-being.

OxyGeneration can offer sessions for individuals who wish to explore HBOT in this context. Please visit our Wellness page for further information.
